Tips for Creating An Effective Timeline

Finally! You decided to start that business or begin that project you’ve been sitting on, but there are a 100 things to do and you have a million ideas. Instead of moving forward you find yourself going a bit off track and ultimately you get stuck. So how do you get past the ‘start’ phase? Create an effective timeline to help build out a roadmap, set clear actionable goals and hold yourself accountable with realistic due dates.   

  • Identify Your Goal: Get clear on your goal(s) and write out all the layers needed to accomplish. It is helpful to create categories or buckets of the different items to support you when creating actionable steps and outlining your timing. 

  • Create Action Steps: The only way forward is to make moves. Make sure your steps are actionable. Regardless of the length of your timeline the more progress you are able to actually measure the more rewarding the process will be. 

  • Allocate Timing: Be realistic and assign due dates. Breaking your timeline into bite sized phases will support you in measuring progress, managing your bandwidth and help to decrease those feelings of being overwhelmed. 

  • Then Execute: Starting anything can be a challenging process, but implementing an effective timeline will help to hold you accountable and to actually accomplish your goals.
