Behind the Concept: Build In Color Photoshoot

It all started with a dress. Not just ANY dress, but this dress…

Who would have thought that a late night ASOS find, paired with some transparent sandals from Shoedazzle would be my inspiration for this shoot? Inspiration paired with a fabulous beat face courtesy of Melisa Martin and captured beautifully by photographer Dennis Cohen brought it all to life! When I first saw this dress I hesitated (but only for a second). In that moment, I wondered is it too much? Is it too bright? Is it the right fit? Once the second was over I instantly purchased because the question “Why Not?” spoke louder to me.

Could this purchase be a hit or miss moment, of course, but I had a feeling it would be a hit. For me, it represented boldness in colors, a bold print, layered with ruffles, style, positive vibes and a dose of badass. I mean you would have to be pretty bold, confident and ready to take on the world to wear it, which I was. I was ready and needed a piece to exude the energy I was sharing. This dress became that statement piece and the concept for “Build in Color” was born.

So Why Build In Color?

I like to think of myself as a brand architect. A builder in the brand marketing industry helping brands to own their voice. My expertise spans across a variety of disciplines and industries that when combined gives me leverage to create and form something new or improved. Along with my ability to BE outside the box, THINK outside the box and LIVE OUT LOUD made this concept fitting for my next steps.

What’s Next?

Glad you asked! This photoshoot was intended to update my personal website with some new photos and messaging, a few tweaks here and there, nothing crazy. What was supposed to be a simple lift turned into an entire overhaul of my digital assets: resume, portfolio, website and social media pages. Over the past few months I’ve been doing my best to embrace the highs and lows (in the world, my feelings, etc), be productive, balance self care and most of all check in with myself. A lot of self auditing. Through my reflections I’ve been getting clarity on how to best serve myself and others.

This overhaul was necessary and enlightening. I realized how much knowledge I could share on a larger scale.
